Battery Tester Maintenance

Maintaining batteries is important, but so is maintaining your Midtronics battery tester. Ensuring that your Midtronics battery tester is in best condition will reduce maintenance costs and equipment downtime. There are a few simple steps to take to ensure that your battery tester is kept in its best condition.

Checking your Cables

Your cables are a vital part of your Midtronics battery tester and go through the toughest usage from being constantly attached and detached from batteries. Defective cables can cause a variety of testing issues, possibly leaving you with incorrect test results.

To protect your cables we suggest that you regularly clean the clamps, removing all dirt and debris and store the tester and cables safely to avoid damage.

It Is likely  that your cables will eventually need to be replaced. You can easily spot when cables need replacement. 1, if your cables are physically damaged. This could be bent and disfigured clamps or exposed wiring. If there are exposed wires we strongly recommend replacing the cable set immediately. 2, Clamp discolouring. Eventually over time the clamps will lose their colour. This is an easy to spot indication that they need replacing.

AA Batteries

Midtronics battery testers are fitted with AA batteries to provide power when not connected to a vehicle battery. If your tester struggles to power on when disconnected from a 12v battery this indicates that the voltage in your AA batteries is low. For battery testers that have an integrated printer, even when connected to a 12V battery the printer will only operate if the AA batteries have enough power. If you are having these issues, it’s  easy to  remove the battery door and replace the batteries.

If the AA battery voltage is low, your Midtronics tester will let you know when to replace them.

Calibration and Health Check

To keep your Midtronics battery tester in its best possible condition we recommend an annual calibration and health check. At Rotronics we have a team of highly trained engineers that use specialist equipment to test and calibrate your battery testers. An annual calibration ensures that all of your Midtronics battery tests are accurate. Whilst your tester is with us we will also give your tester a full health check, to keep it in its best condition.

Fitting a Rubber Bumper

In busy workshops, accidents happen that could cause major damage to your equipment. It is easy to protect your tester. We highly recommend fitting your Midtronics battery tester with a moulded rubber bumper. The rubber bumper is custom designed for your Midtronics Tester and provides a  durable, protective case for your tester protecting it from drops and damage.
